For the beach, land, and sky in this picture, Monet utilised deeper tones such as browns, greys, dismal greens, blues, and ochres. They provide a striking impression of the brightness that announces an impending storm by contrast with the softer tones of the water, surf, and clouds. *CLAUDE MONET (1845-1870) is one of the world's most famous painters, well-known today for his series of serene water lilies paintings, Claude Monet was instrumental in forging an entirely new direction for the world of art & impressionism.
