*Luncheon on the Grass* (1961)- Picasso worked on this series of paintings for more than two years, from August 1959 to September 1961, resulting in twenty-seven paintings and numerous drawings. He found an opportunity to return to a few of his favourite themes once more. Manet's composition, which depicts two naked women in a landscape with two clothed males, is a variety in and of itself. Picasso's changes are of a different kind: he uses Manet's composition as a springboard for his own imagination, which leads him in new, previously unimagined paths.
