Product Description

*Allegory of an American Christmas' was painted when Dali & his wife Gala were on the 1st ever trip to America. Dali loved the idea of a "new country" and the opportunities he saw there; these feelings are reflected in the painting. Dali used the image of an egg-shaped stone often during the Thirties. Here, the huge stone egg fills the painting, hovering ominously over the flat, blue land. The dark clouds on the horizon heighten the atmosphere of expectancy. A distorted golden plane is breaking free from a hole in the egg. The black hole forms the shape of the northern US, with South America painted in golden colors beneath it. *Salvador Dali (1904-1989) - A Spanish artist renowned for 'surrealism', cubism, futurism, technical skill, precise draftsmanship, striking & bizarre images in his work. Major themes in his work include dream sequences, the subconscious, sexuality, religion, science and his closest personal relationships. He used this method to realize the dreams and imagination he had in his mind, changing the real world the way he wanted and not necessarily what it was. Dal's artistic repertoire included painting, graphic arts, film, sculpture, design, photography, fiction, poetry, autobiography, essays and criticism.
