Beach at Scheveningen in Stormy Weather' (1882) was made quickly, en plain air, on an essel at the beach, with the wind whipping up sand and nearly blowing Van Gogh's feet. The painting was stored at the Van Gogh'se in Breda. In a letter to his brother Theo, Van Gogh talked about how colours in the Mediterranean change. "It wasn�t even blue, it was somewhere between green and violet. Saintes-Maries wasn�t happy or sad, it was just beautiful and that is what the artist wanted to capture." he wrote further. The reason why Van Gogh�s seascapes are so important is because they are so few, and they really show the true beauty of the Mediterranean Sea.
