Product Description

*Girl in the Window (1925)- Also known as Young Woman at a Window ad Figure at a Window; Salvador Dalí created this when he was 21 years old, it is one of his most famous works from his early realist period before he became a leading figure of Surrealism. The view from the window is of the Bay of Cadaqués, a seaside town in Spain where the Dalí family spent their summers. It is a realist work influenced by the Rückenfigur technique (a figure seen from behind), famously used by German Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich. The open window and calm sea suggest themes of contemplation, freedom, and longing.
*Salvador Dali (1904-1989) - A Spanish artist renowned for 'surrealism', cubism, futurism, technical skill, precise draftsmanship, striking & bizarre images in his work. Major themes in his work include dream sequences, the subconscious, sexuality, religion, science and his closest personal relationships. His major contribution to the Surrealist movement is called the "Paranoiac-Critical Method" which is a form of mental exercise of accessing the subconscious parts of the mind to have an artistic inspiration. He used this method to realize the dreams and imagination he had in his mind, changing the real world the way he wanted and not necessarily what it was. Dalí's artistic repertoire included painting, graphic arts, film, sculpture, design and photography. He also wrote fiction, poetry, autobiography, essays and criticism.
