Norham Castle, Sunrise 2 (1845) : Norham Castle is situated on the River Tweed on the border between England and Scotland. J.M.W. Turner first visited Norham in 1797 and over the years, he captured the castle in several well-known artworks. This painting was created in the mature stage of his career when his compositions became more fluid with mere suggestion of movement. This painting is considered one of Turners one of the great paintings of light and atmosphere and his genius. *JMW (Joseph Mallord William) TURNER (1775-1851) was one of the most important English Romantic Painters of the 19th century. He is known for his expressive colourisations, imaginative landscapes and turbulent, often violent marine paintings. Turner's imagination was sparked by shipwrecks, fires, and natural phenomena such as sunlight, storm, rain, and fog. He was fascinated by the violent power, turbulence and tidestorms of the sea. It's said that his last words before death were, 'The Sun is God!'
