Product Description
Self Portrait (1510)- Also called as Portrait of a Man in Red Chalk, it is thought that Leonardo drew this with red chalk, when he was 60. It is housed inTurin, at theRoyal Library, and is not generally viewable by the public due to its fragility and poor condition. The assumption that it is his self-portrait was made in the 19thcentury, based on the similarity of the sitter to his other portraitsand on the high quality of the drawing, consistent with others by Leonardo. *Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (14521519) was Italian painter, draughtsman, engineer, scientist, theorist, sculptor, and architect. He gained notoriety for his notebooks, in which he produced sketches and notes on a variety of topics, including anatomy, astronomy, botany, painting, and palaeontology, even though his popularity primarily stemmed from his accomplishments as a painter. Only his younger contemporary, Michelangelo, has made a greater impact to following generations of painters than Leonardo, who is widely recognised as a genius and the embodiment of the Renaissance humanist ideal.
