Product Description

*Stormy Sea in etretat (1883): A stormy sea on a winter day is depicted in etretat's Stormy Sea. The cliff visible is that of etretat (Seine Maritime), where Monet spent many winters between 1864 and 1865, writing: "I spend my time outdoors on the stone when it's big time [...] and of course I work all the time." In February 1883, Monet created the painting from the window of the hotel where he was staying at the time. Separate brushstrokes paired with brilliant colours are used to create the appearance of movement on the sea. Monet was known for layering colours while they were still wet on the canvas. *CLAUDE MONET (1845-1870) is one of the world's most famous painters, well-known today for his series of serene water lilies paintings, Claude Monet was instrumental in forging an entirely new direction for the world of art & impressionism. His distinctive use of colour, vision, and conformation would have a long influence on fine art, inspiring many great artists like Van Gogh.
