Product Description
The Wreck of a Transport ShiP (1810) : This stunning artpiece appears to have been influenced by 'The Shipwreck' (Tate Britain, London) from 1805. The construction of the space, deliberately asymmetrical and chaotic, is developed through the use of diagonals of broken masts and oars which are juxtaposed against the swirling seas. The human element, insignificant and lost, is about to surrender to the violence of the waves. This work reveals an extreme sensibility towards nature within the finest English seascapes, in which, for a seafaring nation 'par excellence', the shipwreck subject was especially appreciated. *JMW (Joseph Mallord William) TURNER (1775-1851) was one of the most important English Romantic Painters of the 19th century. He is known for his expressive colourisations, imaginative landscapes and turbulent, often violent marine paintings. Turner's imagination was sparked by shipwrecks, fires, and natural phenomena such as sunlight, storm, rain, and fog. He was fascinated by the violent power, turbulence and tidestorms of the sea. It's said that his last words before death were, 'The Sun is God!'
